Natural Disasters Landslides Hit Mamuju, South-Sulawesi


Landslide Disaster in MamujuBencana Alam: Tanah Longsor Hantam Mamuju Sulawesi Selatan

The Second Disaster was happened again in Mamuju, Western Sulawesi. A number cubic of land fall from the mountain. It's about 100 meters from the top. The big problem is the landslide also brings the numbers of big stone and face off the road. To move this from the line, it's need a heavy equipment like excavator. For one day, the road is blocked by the land and the stone. Before that, Some people had to pay about IDR 50.000,- to make their motor cycle escape from the landslide. Some people will take up the vehicle and bring it to across.

The Village of Unang Utara, District of Tubo hit again by natural disasters. It was a landslides for the second time. The first incident was happened in May 2012 that killed one person and headed up the number of vehicles, and later on December 15, 2012 yesterday. Estimated landslide occurred about 01.00 pm. This natural disaster caused the paralyzed of trans-sulawesi for 50-meter that making the transportation of Mamuju-Majene disconnected. Approximately 10 kilometers, the queue of vehicles crowded the pathway.

Beside the heap of soil, the incident also brought large rocks that cover the whole of the road. A number of electric poles uprooted join landslide swept away. Similarly, the plant / tree fell across the road. As a result, the line is completely impassable by motor vehicles.

Although this landslide disaster did not cause casualties, but communities around it, still worried about the possibility of a subsequent landslides. This is because, the recent rainfall has increased dramatically, along with strong wind gusts. Similarly, the condition of the mountains around the scene looks barren.

In order to solve this landslides disaster, the local government asked some contractors to provide heavy equipment to move the landslides and rocks that covered the road. The removal process does not go smoothly. This is because, many mud curb the machine and also there are many rocks that fell at the time of removal.

With the efforts and hard work of the drivers of heavy equipment and the society supporting, finally around 14.00 pm, the line of trans-Sulawesi was finally reusable.
Desa Unang Utara Kecamatan Tubo kembali dilanda bencana alam, berupa tanah longsor untuk kedua kalinya. Kejadian yang pertama pada bulan Mei 2012 lalu yang menewaskan satu orang dan sejumlah kendaraan bermotor tertimbun tanah longsor, dan selanjutnya pada minggu tanggal 15 Desember 2012 kemarin. Diperkirakan bencana tanah longsor tersebut terjadi sekitar pukul 01.00 wita dinihari. Bencana tanah longsor ini menyebabkan lumpuhnya jalur trans-sulawesi sepanjang 50 meter yang menyebabkan arus transportasi mamuju-majene terputus. Kurang lebih sepanjang 10 kilometer, antrian kendaraan memadati jalur tersebut.

Selain timbunan tanah, kejadian tersebut juga membawa bebatuan besar yang menutupi seluruh badan jalan. Sejumlah tiang listrik ikut tumbang terseret arus tanah longsor. Demikian juga dengan tanaman/ pohon jatuh melintang di badan jalan tersebut. Akibatnya jalur tersebut sama sekali tidak bisa dilalui oleh kendaraan bermotor.

Meskipun bencana tanah longsor kali ini tidak menimbulkan korban jiwa, akan tetapi masyarakat di sekitar lokasi masih cemas akan kemungkinan terjadinya longsor susulan. Hal ini disebabkan karena, curah hujan akhir-akhir ini meningkat drastic yang disertai dengan tiupan angin yang kencang. Demikian juga dengan kondisi pegunungan di sekitar lokasi kejadian tampak gersang.

Dalam rangka menanggungali bencana tanah longsor tersebut, pemerintah setempat meminta kepada sejumlah kontraktor untuk menyediakan alat berat guna memindahkan tanah longsor dan bebatuan yang menutupi jalan tersebut. Proses pemindahan tersebut tidaklah berjalan mulus. Hal ini disebabkan karena, banyaknya Lumpur yang menekan laju alat berat dan juga masih banyaknya bebatuan yang berjatuhan pada saat pemindahan tersebut.

Dengan usaha dan kerja keras dari para pengemudi alat berat dan bantuan warga, akhirnya sekitar pukul 14.00 wita, jalur trans-sulawesi tersebut akhirnya dapat digunakan kembali.
