Bugis Language (Bahasa Bugis): The Vocal Mark on Lontara Bugis - Makassar
At this session, the writer would try to discuss about five marks to change the vocal sound of the symbol or character in Lontara. As The writer said before that the five marks are i, u, e, é and o. If We put the mark before, after, below or above of the symbol, it will make the different sound. The writer emphasizes that the 23 of symbol has no meaning. The writer will try to give explanation about how to use this vocal marks which putting on Lontara Script. Therefore, The writer will give an example from the first of 4 lines of Lontara Script. From the above pictures, it makes a clear that if we put a node above the symbol or character, the symbol will be sounded like (i). Meanwhile, if the node was putted below the symbol or character, the symbol will be sounded like (u). Next, the symbol or character was preceded by “L” Mark, will change the symbol sounded like (e). The character or symbol was followed by “L” mark, it will be sounded like  (o) and if the
“L” mark was putted above of the symbol, it will make a sound like (é). It makes clear that if we pronounce the Lontara, before adding sound mark, the Character on pronunciation process will be always followed by /a/. For more detail about the changing of sound to the Lontara Character, The reader will give some examples as follow:

 Ka will be changed into ki /ki/, ku /ku/, ke /ke/, ko /ko/ and ké /ké/ after putting vocal mark on it. For example:
Symbol 1     Ki /ki/, /k    like /ki/ → in ‘kiss /s/  
Symbol 2     Ku /ku/    like /ku/ → in ‘kudos /kudɑs /
Symbol 3     Ke /ke/    like /ke/ → in ‘kept /kept/
Symbol 4     Ko /ko/    like /ko/ → in ‘koala bear /koʊɑlə beər /
Symbol 5     Ké /kə/    like /kə/ → in ‘maker /maɪr/

The symbol of Lontara ‘Ga’ will be changed into gi /gi/, gu /gu/, ge /ge/, go /go/ and gé /gə/ after putting vocal mark on it. See the following example:
Symbol 6 gi /gi/, /gɪ/ like /gi/ → in ‘give /v/
Symbol 7 gu /gu/ like /gu/ → in ‘gubernatorial /gubərnətɔriəl/
Symbol 8 Ge /ge/ like /ge/ → in ‘game /geim/
Symbol 9 Go /go/ like /go/ → in ‘gold /goʊld/
Symbol 10 gé /gə/ like /gə/ → in ‘geiger counter /gɑɪrˌkɑʊntər/

The ‘pa’ symbol  can be changed into pi /pi/, pu /pu/, pe /pe/, po /po/ and pé /pə/ after added by vocal mark. For example, below:
Symbol 6     pi /pi/, /pI/    like /pi/ → in ‘peace /pi:s/  
Symbol 7     pu /pu/    like /pu/ → in ‘pool /pul/
Symbol 8     pe /pe/    like /pe/ → in ‘pet /pet/
Symbol 9     po /po/    like /po/ → in ‘reporter /reportər/
Symbol 10     pé /pə/    like /pə/ → in ‘pernicious /rnɪʃəs/

Generally, the forming of Vocal sound to the others character on Lontara is same. Simply, The last sound on phonetic structure is changed by the mark vowel.

saya ingin memelihara bahasa bugis dengan kaum puak saya di sini.ada tak buku basic bahasa bugis yang dijual ?
